With that in mind, managing a newly launched product and thinking about the vision and roadmap of your product isn\u2019t that easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>We think: The more information you have, the less risky it is. Although, you might have been thinking, Why is product feedback important?<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Asking customers about the job which needs to be done<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Continuously ask yourself (and others too) about the problem which your product is solving. Ask for that problem. And verify the solution you\u2019re offering through customer interviews. Here\u2019s how we, at Usersnap, conduct our <a href=\"https:\/\/usersnap.com\/blog\/product-survey-questions\/\">product feedback survey<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The product feature matrix<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Our product team basically handles the product roadmap with a so-called <b>feature matrix<\/b>. To be honest, it isn\u2019t that complicated as it may sound. Yes, any user. These are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Importance:<\/strong> how important is a future feature for our (future) users<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Satisfaction:<\/strong> are your customers satisfied with certain features \/ use cases<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Amount:<\/strong> How many users will be affected by this new feature<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Having drafted a first version of the feature matrix, we then start adding questions and potential interview partners to the matrix.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"acf-cta\" style=\"background-image: url(https:\/\/usersnap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Group-1000004194.svg); width: 100%;\"><h2>Try Usersnap for Feedback Collection<\/h2><a href=\"https:\/\/usersnap.com\/signup\" class=\"cta-button\">Try Usersnap Now<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Again, another Google spreadsheet helps us to keep track of importance and satisfaction on various features from product feedback questionaire. The matrix looks like this:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"245\" src=\"https:\/\/usersnap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/episode-list-product-feature-matrix-1024x245.png\" alt=\"google spreadsheet for prioritization\" class=\"wp-image-2925\" srcset=\"https:\/\/usersnap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/episode-list-product-feature-matrix-1024x245.png 1024w, https:\/\/usersnap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/episode-list-product-feature-matrix-300x72.png 300w, https:\/\/usersnap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/episode-list-product-feature-matrix-140x33.png 140w, https:\/\/usersnap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/episode-list-product-feature-matrix.png 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Those questions which we then ask customers are not generic questions like \u201cWhat do you think about feature X?\u201d or \u201cWould you like to see feature Y in Usersnap?\u201d. We rather ask if people are working with certain features and for what use cases they are being used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Outcome-driven innovation &amp; opportunity algorithm<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We basically prioritize our features by calculating the opportunity of each new feature. We therefore use the<b> opportunity algorithm developed by Anthony W. Ulwick<\/b>. Ulwick\u2019s outcome-driven innovation framework helps us a lot to focus on the truly important product features. The algorithm basically includes the following parameters:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Importance (of a new features)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Satisfaction (of the user with certain features <a href=\"https:\/\/usersnap.com\/glossary\/pdlc\">using the user feedback<\/a> product development)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Opportunity (which can be gained through implementing certain features)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore the calculation looks like this:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"606\" height=\"76\" src=\"https:\/\/usersnap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/implement_product_features_-_Google_Docs.png\" alt=\"implement product features-opportunity algorithm\" class=\"wp-image-2931\" srcset=\"https:\/\/usersnap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/implement_product_features_-_Google_Docs.png 606w, https:\/\/usersnap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/implement_product_features_-_Google_Docs-300x38.png 300w, https:\/\/usersnap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/implement_product_features_-_Google_Docs-140x18.png 140w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 606px) 100vw, 606px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>This algorithm basically measures and ranks new features and product updates regarding their <strong>innovation opportunity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The standard analysis looks at the difference between importance and satisfaction. Ulwick, however, gives twice as much weight to importance than to satisfaction. The higher the opportunity score of a certain feature, the more priority we put on implementing it.
